What grapes are in Chianti?

Sangiovese is the dominant grape in both appellations. At least 80% of the grapes used to produce Chianti Classico must be Sangiovese. Instead, only 70% of the wine in Chianti must be Sangiovese. Additionally, Chianti accepts up to 10% of white grape types while Chianti Classico exclusively permits red grapes.
