La Spezia is a small city of approximately 93k inhabitants, in the south-eastern part of Liguria, is located the capital of this province also known by the same name. During the prehistoric times, after the first settlements, this area was inhabited by the Ligurians and then tracked the occurrences of a Roman outpost, nearby Luni. In 1300 the Genoese, who was extended as far as Lerici, and succeeded to include in its territory La Spezia, along with the dominion of the Lombards and Carolingians.
Nowadays La Spezia is located between Liguria and Tuscany and is considered a very important town with its economical strategies in ironworking, shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, oil refineries, and tourism. Tourists were the only visitors, who wanted to visit the Gulf of Poets (Palmaria, Tino), Lerici, Fiascherino, and the Cinque Terre, and by this way, they used to visit La Spezia, until the past few years. Nowadays, the town has changed a lot, expanding its offers and opportunities. The waterfront, the Gardens, the Arsenal, the Naval Museum, and the Castle of San Giorgio, are a must-see in this beautiful town. The historic center of this town nourishes our soul with its civil and religious buildings: the Liberty buildings in Piazza Garibaldi, The Palazzo Oldoini, the Civic Theater, and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
