Certaldo is most famous for being the hometown of famous author and Italian linguist, Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-75). He's considered one if not father to what we know now as "Modern Languages" with his work in translating Old French poetry into Latin during medieval times. His home town has been turned into an open museum where visitors can enjoy views from above ground on how life would've looked back then while learning more about this genius' life story through art exhibits too! One specific event happening throughout July involves Mercantia Festival; it features street performers all over town who perform different types either music or comedy routines making sure everyone gets involved. All around you'll see Tuscany at its most captivating - fields lush from irrigation by mountain streams or olive groves swaying under gentle breezes while sheep graze peacefully next door to cows noses immersed deep into mounds of green grasses waiting out this summer heat wave together.
