myTour in Italy invites you to discover the magnificent city of Saturnia. The area has been inhabited since the time of the Etruscans, and back then it was called Aurinia. Then the Romans renamed it Saturnia. During the medieval period it weathered numerous assaults from Orvieto and Siena, and the fortifications that the local feudal lords had built eventually proved powerless to prevent this part of the Maremma from being conquered.
There is a very interesting Legend about the city. The legend says that Saturn, a Roman god, was angry with a mankind that was constantly at war with itself, so took a thunderbolt and flung it to earth. So he decided to create a volcanic crater that released not lava but geyser. Because of this, the welcoming fold men were happier and wiser.
