The Apuan coast is full of sandy or pebble beaches, as well as bathing establishments. Both Massa and Carrara are two cities with centuries of history behind them. The historic center of Massa, dominated by a castle - the Malaspina Fortress, can be visited in a few hours. As well as that of Carrara, where everything, from the sidewalks to the benches is made of precious white marble. The mountains between Massa and Carrara are full of paths but also of beautiful rivers with clear waters, which are frequented by nature lovers in summer.
The Lunigiana extends in the province of Massa-Carrara, a land between the mountains and the sea, a land divided between Tuscany and Liguria. MyTour takes you to discover Lunigiana through a horseback ride that retraces part of the route of the Via Francigena, which connected Canterbury to Rome. After the walk, lunch included on the farm, tasting the specialties of the region. If, on the other hand, you are interested in learning more about the marble quarries and the marble basins, we have the tour of the quarries by jeep, with a final visit to Colonnata to taste the delicious lard.
Not only statuary marble is quarried from the mountains, used for works of art or decorations. In recent decades, marble dust has also been extracted in large quantities from the Apuan Alps for making cosmetics. This is rapidly leading to the disappearance of many of these mountains.
