I enjoyed a Vespa Experience tour with my friends this weekend and it was one to never forget. My friend Nicole had been insisting on the Vespa experience actually after she had seen a bunch of IG videos and photos. So, we finally found our common free time to enjoy it.
We were exploring tours so we could book the right one and that is when we came across myTour website. There were options that included different activities as well, but we chose to go for the one that was a 7h experience in Chianti. To us, 7 hours is practically a full day and the best part of it was that we were going to ride around Chianti. I simply couldn't keep my mouth shut and told everyone that I was going to Chianti.
I had only seen the pictures and now it was our time to go there!
Our meeting point was at 09:30 on Via della Resistenza. It was quite easy to find because on their website was also the Google Maps location. It turned out that we were staying just 10 minutes away from Via della Resistenza and we got there in time.
We arrived on a Friday evening rather late; the others had already eaten, they had already gotten together, and they toasted our wellbeing in the stunning Villa Curina in the Chianti Valley. We checked into our accommodation right away after arriving around 11.30 p.m., had a drink, and met our "Vespa" buddies.
We were all awake or nearly awake on Saturday morning at 7 o'clock. We were all excited to get moving and clearly quite branded with a lot of jersey, K-way, and Vespa bags. After a quick shower and an even quicker meal, we were ready to grab our scooters and start figuring out how to move around.
Nobody knew the route that lay ahead of us—okay, I knew it, but I swear I didn't tell anyone—and nobody knew what the day would bring. Rain was predicted, right? Would we have gotten lost? Would we have encountered issues? Fortunately, none of this occurred; in fact, the sun was with us all day long until after dinner. The much-dreaded rainfall finally materialized, but the day was already gone and our wasps had found refuge from the rain.
Three stages were anticipated; let's suppose the other stages were technical. Having a skilled technical team on hand at all times ensures that if something were to happen to one of the Vespas, there would always be someone who knew what was going on. I must confess, the organization was excellent. There were always two wasps at the head and tail of our line who made sure everyone was on the same page. I was usually the one that lagged behind the most, but I prefer traveling slowly so I can see everything and take in the scenery.
After about fifty minutes of driving, we arrived at the Castello di Brolio, from which we had a stunning view of the entire Chianti Valley and the property of Baron Ricasoli. Our day began with the releasing of white balloons that were clearly labeled Vespa. After the castle visit, a guided tour of the wine cellars followed by an aperitif before lunch allowed us to see and taste how Baron Ricasoli's wine is made. We headed to Monteriggioni after a satisfying glass of wine, and I almost made the medieval festival.
We ate lunch at the Ristorante da Remo in Monteriggioni, which serves only Tuscan cuisine. We had a few hours to recover from the sweltering weather and get to know each other a little better between the pappardella and wild boar and Tuscan pecorino soufflé with truffles. Driving the Vespa became even more enjoyable after lunch as the road began to feel more comfortable. After another hour of walking, we reached San Giminiano, a beauty in this area, with bales of hay on one side of the road and verdant slopes of vineyards on the other.
We put our wasps to one side while everyone in attendance marveled at the vibrant colors of our race vehicles and headed straight for Dondoli, one of Italy's top ice cream shops. After the obligatory shot, I return to the saddle but not before I look for the hat that I'll be taking to Jordan tomorrow. After weeks of searching, I'd finally located the perfect hat!
The afternoon went by very quickly, and before the sky started to turn pink, we arrived back at our Villa Curina, exhausted but ecstatic! After changing for an hour, we reunited at 9 o'clock to toast a wonderful day. A more than ideal evening was rounded out by the chef Giorgio Trovat's delicious dinner, laughter, and weary but pleased eyes. To everyone's surprise, a shower surprised us on the terrace after dinner, so we hastily made our way back to the restaurant. To avoid calling it a day so quickly, some people went to bed early (quite early) and others chose to wait.
