Street Food Tour di Lecce

Walking along via Libertini you can experience the second experience of the tour, a stop at the "pucceria". What is puccia? It's a warm, round bread, baked and stuffed with marinated vegetables, ham and mozzarella... a real dream!!! After the puccia experience you have to walk, so why not take the only rococo style street (via Palmieri) famous for its civil buildings. When you arrive in Piazza Sant'Oronzo you cannot fail to taste one of the most famous Lecce foods, Rustico; a round vol au vent of puff pastry filled with mozzarella, béchamel, tomato and pepper, a real delight!!! But you can't participate in a street food tour in Lecce without the "horse bits". Horse bits are an Italian delicacy, tender pieces of horse meat cooked in a delicious local tomato sauce. You have to try this authentic dish to truly experience Italian cuisine, so head to the local "putea" (tavern) to taste it! This incredible dish needs two more things: bread for the tomato sauce and a good glass of local red wine. After this, you will be full and satisfied... but you are in Italy! If you stop here, you will miss the sweetest moment of the tour... a last relaxing visit to a local café to end your lunch with an Italian espresso, the tasty pasticciotto (a round-shaped dessert made of puff pastry filled with cream lemon) and quince jam (quince jam).
