Exclusive Small Group Tour to Siena, San Gimignano and Chianti from Viareggio-Lido di Camaiore
Our driver will pick you up from our meeting point at the Railway Station of Viareggio. It is easy to reach from Marina di Pietrasanta, Lido di Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, also, from smaller stations like Seravezza, Stazzema, Camaiore, Montignoso, it is fast to get here. We will travel through the scenic countryside and reach the medieval Siena and San Gimignano. Here, you will feel as if time has stopped.
San Gimignano is also known as the Manhattan of the Middle Ages. Indeed, its skyline is unique with 14 medieval towers. Even in the distance, you can see this hilltop town. The several towers were a symbol of wealth and power. Besides, San Gimignano is rich in history and medieval architecture. For this reason, UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site. Moreover, many vineyards surround the area. In fact, wine production (Vernaccia) is very important here. In addition, this town also offers good local products like saffron and golden ham.
After San Gimignano, we will drive to Siena. It is very beautiful from many points of view. You find history, art, and traditions. Indeed, the town is famous for a horse race, which takes place in the main square, Piazza del Campo. The competition is called Palio and dates back to the 17th century. It comes from the rivalries between the town districts (contrade). Furthermore, the city develops around this shell-shaped square, with nice narrow streets and old brick buildings. In Siena, you will feel like in the Middle Ages for one day. As a matter of fact, the historic center of Siena belongs to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
You cannot say that you visited Siena if you did not see some main attractions. Firstly, Piazza del Campo. In the main square, you can admire the Town Hall building and the tall Torre del Mangia. Secondly, the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta. This Cathedral has a marvelous striped facade. Inside you find masterpieces signed by artists like Donatello and Michelangelo. Thirdly, the Baptistery, which was built in 1300. It contains a precious baptismal font. Great Renaissance sculptors created it.
If you say Italy, you say Wine. Chianti is probably the most famous Tuscan wine. However, it is not the only wine in Tuscany. In the local winery, you will enjoy a unique wine tasting. In fact, you will have Original Tuscan Chianti and many other Italian Good Wines. To make your Italian tasting experience complete, you should try also some local food. Moreover, you need to try bruschetta. It is a slice of bread with delicious local Extra Virgin Olive Oil on top.
