Murano Island – The Home of Murano Glass-Making

No trip to Venice would ever be complete without a visit to glass paradise, Murano. The island is just a mile away from Venice set the pace for fashion and innovation in the global glass-making industry for more than 700 years.

Here is where talented artisans turned glassmaking into an art form meant to satisfy even the most exquisite tastes. Murano charms its visitors also with many other attractions that are unique and cannot be found anywhere else.

Our experienced guide will show you some more about Murano. How did it get its name, Murano‘s history over the decades, how did all this passion about glass making started and more answers will be revealed by our tour guide.

The colorful Burano!

The tour will then continue towards the island of Burano. The boat will drop you in a green lane and then, our guide will take you to Island’s Main Square. From there you will have a clear sight of San Martino’s Church which houses the “Crucifixion” painting by Tiepolo, and the famous leaning tower.

Get ready to be impressed by the colorful houses of Burano that are reflected into the green waters of channels, by the Leaning Bell Tower and the kindness with which the elderly ladies embroider Burano lace by their lace pillow. Burano is well known for its lace-making and for the brightly-colored fishermen’s houses. Here neighbourly ladies invite the most curious visitors to come into their shops and admire the lace working.

The typical Burano's houses are squared-shaped and divided into two or three floors. Usually, at the low ground there is the kitchen, the breakfast table and the toilet. At the next floors there are the bedrooms.

The different colours of the houses, which today represent the island main feature, at a previous time were used to delimit the properties. An old legend narrates that fishermen painted their houses so they could see them from long distance when they were far away for fishing. Burano is one of its kind and you will admire everything about it.

La gita è andata bene ma è durata mezz'ora in meno del previsto, avendo tolto 15 min di sosta a Murano e Burano. Quindi non posso considerarmi pienamente soddisfatta.
