Are you searching for a self-guided tour in Italy? Get ready for a Pisa and Lucca day trip. Immerse yourself into nature. You will ride on secondary country roads and on the cycle path of the Serchio river. At the shop, we will give you all the information about our customised itinerary on a free app for mobile and all accessories to be independent and safe. You will be the guide of yourself, so just cycle and have fun! The route, completely flat, stars from Lucca, goes all around the Monti Pisani, avoiding the main roads that cross them. Monti Pisani is a mountain system dividing a plain and the two cities of Pisa and Lucca, crossed by the rivers Serchio and Arno. The long road that runs along the slopes of the mountains, known simply as the 'lungomonte', is characterised by villages with ancient hamlets, fortresses, monasteries, parish churches and castles, remains of fortifications and aqueducts. An excursion through the Monti Pisani can reveal fascinating ravines and picturesque caves and grottoes, each of which has its own particularity to be discovered and appreciated, such as the Grotta del Leone, Grotta della Spoletta, and the Grotta del Monticello with its stalactites and stalagmites. Every corner of the Monti Pisani is filled with an aura of magic and mysticism that makes it a unique place, thanks also to the fact that it was identified as an ideal place for retreat and prayer.
The road is a mix of asphalt, dirt road and cycle path, thanks to these characteristics it is perfectly ridable with e-bikes, trekking bikes, or mountain bikes, and is also perfect for families with children. After about 20km, along the way, you will find San Giuliano Terme, a charming town in the Tuscan hinterland surrounded by lush nature. Here you can refresh yourself in the fascinating central square in front of the Spa. The itinerary ends in Piazza dei Miracoli. After visiting the Piazza take some funny Leaning Tower of Pisa pictures (in front of Piazza dei Miracoli).
You can return easily by train, (about 25 minutes of travel), by loading the bicycle on the prepared wagons. The more trained and adventurous can decide to go back by bike along a more direct route.
