Full Description

One Day Tour in small groups from Lucca to Cinque Terre National Park: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Monterosso

  • Departure From Lucca, directly to Cinque Terre in the Ligurian Coast.
  • After meeting with our Tour Leader in the city area, we will start our Cinque Terre Small-Group Tour from Lucca. The trip from Lucca to the first village belonging to the Park (that, depending on the weather, will be either Manarola or Riomaggiore) will take approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  • Once arrived, you will start the visit of some villages in the National Park together with our Tour Leader, who will be at your disposal during the day. He/she will tell you nice anecdotes about what you see and advise you about what to do during your free time. The National Park of Cinque Terre is a protected area stretching for about 15 km along the Eastern Coast of Liguria. In 1997, this area was selected by Unesco as a World Heritage Site as well as a national park and a marine protected area. During our Day Tour, you will have the chance to discover the charming fishing villages, all wedged between the cliffs and the sea. They are characterized by their typical pastel-coloured facades and surrounded by terraced vineyards and olive trees. You will spend a lovely day discovering the real gems along the Ligurian Riviera.
  • Ferry Boat* Experience to Visit Cinque Terre
  • We will travel by boat (preferable itinerary weather permitting), or by train, to move from one village to another.
  • Riomaggiore and Manarola, the southernmost villages of the Cinque Terre.

  • Riomaggiore: this is the most southern village of the Cinque Terre, situated only a few minutes by train from the main port of La Spezia. The town overlooks the sea and its typical stone tower houses developed in height with colourful facades rising on the cliffs. From this village to the adjacent one, Manarola, runs a famous pedestrian street called Via dell’Amore (The Lovers’ Lane), a romantic path engraved and carved into the rock connecting the two villages. (The trail is temporarily closed due to the 2011 floods and is therefore under maintenance).
  • Manarola: this is the second village you find travelling from the southeast. This is also the oldest village in the Cinque Terre National Park. You can explore its narrow alleys and pretty squares with colourful tall houses, leading down to the small harbour. On the hilly side of the village, you can find the Church of San Lorenzo. From the square nearby you can have a nice view over the several terraced vineyards built by humans in the surrounding areas.
  • The charming village of Vernazza. Many people consider it the most fascinating village within the National Park. The village dates back to the year 1000 a.C. and still preserves a small natural harbour. This village is surely worth a visit for the beauty of its historic center. Indeed, you will see elegant arcades, loggias, and portals. Moreover, you will be able to admire the scenic surrounding area with innumerable olive trees and vineyards terraces. On the top of the promontory rises the Castle Doria, surmounted by a sighting tower. Climbing up the narrow steps you can get to the castle and from there can enjoy a breathtaking view on the coast until Monterosso, the last village of Cinque Terre National Park.
  • You will love Monterosso. Monterosso is the biggest of the villages. A small promontory divides it into two smaller bays, with the modern town on one side, and the old one on the other. On the promontory, you can see the Aurora Tower. This is the only one of the thirteen original towers defending the town, today used as a private house. In Monterosso you also find the biggest beach on the entire coast, with rows of coloured umbrellas and locals sunbathing in summer. This is an antique and beautiful seaside town, and its beach is considered one of the most 10 beautiful beaches in the world by Forbes in 2006.
  • Free Time for Beach Activities (in summer), Lunch or Shopping in Cinque Terre
  • Departure 7:50 am approx.
  • You will be directed to the closest available location. Within the historic walls, there are many narrow streets. Therefore, it is not always possible to reach every location. Our meeting point in Lucca is usually in Piazza Napoleone (at the corner adjacent to Piazza del Giglio). After the pick-up, we will be ready to start our  Exclusive Cinque Terre Small Group Tour from Lucca.
  • Arrival to Cinque Terre 9:30 am approx.
  • Once we arrive in the National Park of Cinque Terre, we will get off our minivan/minibus and move from village to village using the ferryboat. That means we will have the chance to experience a kind of mini cruise in order to reach the villages of Riomaggiore or Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso. Our Tour Leader will be with you during the whole day and will give you information and advice about what to see and what to do in the different locations. In case the use of ferryboat is not possible because of adverse weather conditions, the Tour Leader can modify the program and the order of the visits and lead you from village to village by train. How to visit Cinque Terre
  • Last Stop in the Village of Monterosso
  • Our last stop will be in the largest of the Cinque Terre villages: Monterosso. Here you will have some free time to taste Italian food in the several local restaurants, to do some shopping or to swim in the blue water of Monterosso.
  • Return to Lucca 5:30 pm
  • We will drop off your group at the same location of departure.
