Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta

Begin your private guided tour of Siena's Duomo Complex with the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, a true testament to the magnificence of Siena's past. Admire its elegant exterior adorned with intricate sculptures and mosaics, setting the stage for the splendor that awaits within. Step through its magnificent doors and into a world of soaring arches, dazzling stained glass windows, and priceless artworks by the likes of Michelangelo and Donatello. Let the history and beauty of this sacred space transport you to another time as your guide unveils its secrets.

Baptistery of San Giovanni

Next, continue with the Baptistery of San Giovanni, an architectural gem hidden beside the cathedral. Marvel at its elegant marble façade, a proof of the skill and craftsmanship of Renaissance artisans. Step inside to discover the baptismal font, a masterpiece of design and symbolism, and learn about its role in the religious rituals of Siena. As sunlight filters through stained glass windows, casting colorful patterns on the floor, soak in the tranquility and reverence of this sacred space.

Crypt of the Cathedral

Descend into the depths of the cathedral to explore its hidden crypt, a place of ancient mysteries and solemn beauty. Follow your guide through dimly lit corridors adorned with centuries-old frescoes and sculptures, each telling a story of faith and devotion. Encounter relics and artifacts that bear witness to the rich history of Siena, from its humble beginnings to its golden age of artistic achievement. As you wander these hallowed halls, feel the weight of history pressing in around you, connecting past and present in a timeless embrace.

Opera Museum

Known in Italian as 'Museo dell'Opera', the Opera Museum includes the great collections of the entire museum complex.

The Museo dell'Opera is one of the oldest private museums established in Italy. It is divided into three floors, each of which houses a specific part of the preserved artistic treasures. On the ground floor we see the 14th-century statuary collection from the original façade of the Duomo, works from the 15th century and the wonderful stained-glass window made by Duccio di Buoninsegna in the second half of the 13th century, an extraordinary mixture of colours.

The first floor houses the main nucleus of paintings, together with the collections of wooden sculptures and illuminated manuscripts. The works on display include the names of artists such as Duccio di Buoninsegna, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Jacopo della Quercia and many others.

Finally, on the second floor, we find paintings on tables with a gold background. We recall 'Madonna degli Occhi Grossi', one of the most dated paintings of the Sienese school, by the Maestro di Tressa. As exhibition spaces, we also see the Sala degli Arazzi and Sala dell'Alfieri, with its prestigious altarpieces by Matteo di Giovanni.
