A walking tour through the historic district of Castello, the center of the social, political, cultural, military and religious life of the city of Cagliari. Sardinia history is the history of Cagliari city center. From its foundation till today, with this tour you will visit also the Archaeological Museum and the mysterious Giants of Mont’e Prama.

Sardinia history: come to visit the wonderful district of Castello

Here we are in the authentic old town center of the city of Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. With its XIII century origins, Casteddu (as the district is called by Sardinians) guards some of the most important fortresses and monuments of Cagliari. Here in Castello, you will walk along with the beautiful palaces built by noble families who took a place in the history of Sardinia. You will see its towers and bastions and visit the Cathedral of Saint Mary where a hidden gem is protected. The Santuario dei Martiri, the Crypt of the Saints and Martyrs.

After the walking tour, you will visit the Archaeological Museum. This museum hosts the findings of the most ancient civilizations of the island. Among them the mysterious Giants of Mont’e Prama. These are the most ancient big statues ever found in the Mediterranean area. They represent archers, swordsmen, wrestlers, some of the main protagonists of the Nuragic civilization. This is a 100% Sardinian-native civilization that spread on the island about 1800 years before Christ and built enormous towers, called the nuraghes.
