Full Description

Enjoy a guided tour of the Accademia Gallery and marvel at the masterpieces by Michelangelo and others. After a lunch break you’ll head out on a guided walking tour of Florence.

The first part of the tour starts right in front of the main entrance of the Accademia Gallery where with our knowledgeable guide you will learn why the David is the most recognizable symbol of Florence and what it used to represent in his time. How did the genius of Michelangelo meet the challenge of extracting the pathos of a being and fixing it forever in time in the Pietà, or the famous Prisoners who still seem to struggle free from their marble blocks? You will have the answers to all your questions. Get the chance to have a close encounter with timeless works of art and get the inside story of the life and times of this consummate artist. After the guided tour you will have some free time to wander around on your own and some free time to have lunch (not included). The second part of the tour includes a walking tour in which you will enjoy an excellent and complete introductory tour dedicated to those who want to know all the facts and secrets of two thousand years of Florentine history, from the city’s Roman origins to a 15th century palace, including the Ponte Vecchio, the famous Uffizi courtyard, and the wonders of the architecture of Brunelleschi’s Dome which overlooks the Baptistery golden ‘Gates of Paradise’.

These tours have made Florence special I was delighted to see Julia was doing the walking tour of Florence and the Academia. She led the Uffizi tour I did earlier that morning. Again she captivated us all with the history of the different places we visited and the history of the rich families of earlier Florence. The tour covered all the important places and it was not tiring. But the visit to the Academia to see David was definitely the highlight. You must see him. If you get Julia she will enthrall you for 45 minutes on how David came about, was sculpted and how he ended up in the Academia. And also showed you how Michael Angelo was a genius. The only let down of this tour was the back room staff. The meeting point location was different depending on where you bought your ticket (I got mine through Trip Advisor) and consequently there were delays. So many people have complained about this, you would think they would do something about it. But this has nothing to do with the tours or the fabulous guide. Recommend this tour 100%. I travelled alone in Florence

Wonderful Tour Took a tour with Christiano (I think). He gave an amazing tour providing information on the statue of David and Michelangelo as well as other sculptors. The walking tour was terrific. I learned so much about Florence that I would not have without Christiano. I highly recommend this tour!
