This palace is one of Florence's largest architectural monuments and probably even in a larger area. The original palace was built back in 1457 for the Pitti family. It was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and built by Luca Fancelli who was his pupil. The original construction was the middle cube of the present building. In 1549, the property became the primary residence of the grand ducal family. The palace was then enlarged; from 1560, Bartolomeo Ammannati also designed and added the grandiose courtyard and two lateral wings. The original building, formed by two floors and the ground floors, it was purchased in 1550 by Eleonora da Toledo, the wife of the Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici, thus becoming the official residence of the family.

the Pitti palace is a must see and the gallery is one of the most amazing private collections I?ve seen in Rome. That being said; if you can find your tour operator that?s great. My normal experience was you wonder from various tour companies asking where your tour company meets and no one knows or will help. Since there are at least six at every attraction and you just want to avoid the crowds and the lines. It?s not a pleasant experience. I?m not impressed h this time with my booking experience. Sorry but other companies just email your tickets.

Always amazing A great museum with an amazing set of paintings that rivals the facilities that was home to at least 3 sets of rulers of Florence. A must see. Advance tickets and early visit recommended.
