The Italian Alps and the charm of Valle d'Aosta

A brief history of Aosta

Aosta is an ancient city, with a complex and charming history. This territory is deeply linked to Italian history as its development coincided with the biggest expansion reached during the Roman Empire. Aosta then developed its actual structure in the next centuries, during the Middle Ages, being a center for trade, pilgrimage, and journeys.

Your guided tour will begin from the magnificent Porta Pretoria, the main gate of the old Roman Aosta. Then, we'll move rapidly to the stunning facade of the Roman Theater and the amazing “cryptoporticus”, an underground gallery built to elevate the Foro temples. Our walk will continue passing by a few classic monuments, and true Medieval masterpieces such as CollegiataChiostro di Sant’Orso and the Aosta Cathedral with its two characteristic towers.

Our tour will end tasting some of the food specialties of this land. You will eat a selection of cured meat, two kinds of Fontina cheese, and a special Toma from Gressoney. Your throat will be pleased with two glasses of local wine.
