In the center of Italy, in the shape of a triangle, is Tuscany. Tuscany is bordered to the north by Liguria and Emilia, to the east by Marche and Umbria, and to the south by Latium.
The Tuscan Archipelago National Park, with Elba as its main island, is located along the long stretch of shoreline to the west that borders the Thyrrenian Sea. Tuscany's northern and eastern regions are home to the Apuan Alps and Apennines.
With a surface area half the size of Holland (23.000 sq. m) and a population of Tuscany is one of the largest regions in Italy.
67% of its land is mountainous (Apuan Alps and Appennines), 25% is hilland (hilly), and the remaining 8% is coastal lowlands. The various regions have very varied landscapes.
