What Islands Are Near Milan?

Milan is not close to the sea or beaches, but it is an ideal place to visit some of Italy's most beautiful lakes. There are  many islands and private villas on these lakes. The most famous of the lake islands is the historically elegant Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore. 

 You can reach Lake Maggiore from Milan in about an hour and a half  by train or car. The most popular town is Stresa. It is also the place where the ferry port is located. Visitors can purchase a ferry ticket to visit all three  Borromean Islands. These islands were decorated by the wealthy Borromean families in the 17th century. These islands are: Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori.
