Despite being the world's smallest state, Vatican City is a must-see at least once in your lifetime. It is astounding how many valuable objects can be discovered in one location, and the Vatican is brimming with history, beauty, and the arts. Ancient walls enclose it on all sides. St. Peter's Square, St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, the Vatican Gardens, the Sistine Chapel, and even subterranean ancient artifacts can all be found inside the walls of the city.
There are really 26 different museums housed within the Vatican Museums, each showcasing an array of intriguing works of art, from Renaissance masterworks to Etruscan antiques, ancient Egyptian art, modern art, holy relics, and much more. There are three lovely courtyards where you may take a break from the heat and take in the outdoor sculptures. Even better, you can tour the Papal apartments, which is an experience of a lifetime.
There are numerous different tour options. The Sistine Chapel is always accessible as part of guided visits, with St. Peter's Basilica receiving priority access. Youn may visit the Vatican Gardens or the underground archeological sites if you're interested in learning more. Even transportation to the Pope's summer residence, Castel Gandolfo, is offered on some tours.
