Italy joined the Schengen Area in 1958, when it became a member of the European Union. Any EU citizen may enter Italy with a valid passport or ID because it is part of the Schengen Zone.
Most non-EU nationals can enter Italy with just a current passport. However, a visit cannot last more than ninety days. Six months must pass after the intended departure date for the passport to remain valid. Make sure there are no unique entrance requirements for Italy in your nation.
You will require a particular visa if you intend to stay in Italy for a period longer than 90 days.
