Traveling By Airplane In Italy

Many travelers ask us if: Is traveling by plane within Italy worthwhile? Sometimes low cost airlines offer cheapest prices for domestic flights within Italy, but many prefer to travel by car or high-speed train. The plane is used only to fly to the islands of Italy (Sicily or Sardinia) or to the extreme south or north.

Inside Italy, they generally do not travel by plane, except for flights that enter and leave the country. 

Even though Italy is a large country, most tourists prefer to travel by train, bus, or private car. In addition, you have the flexibility to stop at stops between major cities. 

Italians travel between cities only when traveling from the very North to the very South and vice versa. Tourists usually fly to Rome or Milan. However, there are also major airports in Naples, Venice and Pisa.
