What to do in Florence

1- Take a walking tour

Florence experiences quite warm temperatures during November and if your trip to the city center happens on a sunny day, then you might want to take a city walking tour before visiting the rest of our advised top things to do in Florence and the top museums of the city.

You will start the walking tour in the middle of the Medici district. It is called like that because of the Medici family, the earliest family that ruled Florence.

After your stand-for-a-while at the San Lorenzo Square you will stop at the Medici Palace, where this family lived for centuries obtaining the power of Florence.

Your guide has much more to tell about it so we are not revealing everything about it! On the following, you will make way to Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral and Piazza del Duomo.

Your last stand will be The Ponte Vecchio. You might have heard about Ponte Vecchio since it is one of its kind in the world and holds her own unique story.

If you are staying just one day in the city then you can schedule and visit all the advised things to do in Florence from this article. But, a walking tour must be the first activity to start the day.

If want to see more, there is a better idea that you might plan for your holiday in Italy: spend 3 days in Florence to enjoy it in its fullest! We are also linking some suggestions about where you can spend the night.

2- Visit Accademia Gallery

Accademia Gallery is probably one of the most important museums in Florence. It is home to the mighty magical sculptures of Michelangelo, the world-wide known sculpture of “the David” and other famous pieces of art.

Florence is a precious jewel to be discovered, and if you are visiting the city during November you will have the privilege of enjoying every single museum without being disturbed by crowds.

Art pieces like the ones inside the Accademia need their time to be admired so take all the time you want and enjoy! Art-works at the Accademia hold behind amazing histories, and for a better understanding you can book a guide, and believe me, I have seen museums with and without guides but there is no comparison! A guide is always a good idea!

Even if it is raining outside, you will feel even more relaxed! Just to share some of the amazing views and masterpieces inside the Accademia, we are leaving a bunch of photos below here!

4- Do not forget Pitti Palace

Palazzo Pitti is one of the main attractions and the most visited point in central Florence. This palace is one of Florence’s largest architectural monuments.

The original palace was built back in 1457 for the Pitti family. It was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and built by Luca Fancelli who was his pupil. Pitti Palace contains museums such as: on the first floor are the Palatine Gallery, containing a broad collection of 16th and 17th-century paintings (including works by Raphael), and the Royal Apartments, containing furnishings from a remodeling done in the 19th century.

During the tour, you will see the characteristic fortress of Monteriggioni. There you will find some shops specialized in typical Tuscan products.
