The Vatican City

The Vatican City, the world's smallest State, is a walled enclave within the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city. This State is ruled by the pope and is home to three of Rome's most visited tourist attractions: St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums. The area that the Vatican City now stands on was originally marshland on the west bank of the Tiber River, between the Milvian Bridge and the current Sixtus Bridge. In 1984, the Vatican City was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the only site to consist of an entire state. Vatican City is definitely a beautiful place to visit with so many places to see and things to do!
