Tip in Italy is not required or expected in restaurants, but it can be nice to leave a tip, a couple coins (5-10%) can be enough. You should also check your bill before tipping as some places might charge an additional fee for services called “coperto”. The “coperto” charged a fixed amount per person or per table; while if the service is included you will not have to pay the extra.
Italians generally round up the bill to tip. For example, if the invoice is € 28, they will leave € 30 and if it is € 32 they will leave € 35.
It's not mandatory, but the best way to thank your taxi driver is with a little extra cash, even if it's only a Euro or two! Especially if they are polite to help you carry heavy luggage.
It can be pleasant if you tip the housekeeping service, but it is not required. If you're staying at a hotel, don’t forget to leave 1-3€ for the porter who brings your suitcases to your room.
