Rome is only a little more than two hours' drive from so many breathtaking locations. Best day trips include the following:
Naples has been dubbed as "the most beautiful town in Italy" because Mt. Vesuvius can be seen from practically anywhere in the city. Take time to explore by strolling up the major retail strip Via Toledo before capping off your day with an authentic pizza in addition to enjoying these natural treasures.
Any history enthusiast must visit the Roman remains of Pompeii. The tour guides there will provide you with a detailed account of the growth and collapse of this once-famous metropolis as well as some fascinating information. Take a guided tour of the ancient ruins, which typically lasts two hours. I advise leaving early and visiting Naples as well if you want to spend the entire day in Rome, followed by a late return to your home. That's what we mean by a week full of action!
Any visitor who enjoys and has a passion for Italy must visit the town of Florence. When you're there visiting, the streets are lovely, just like they always seem to be in movies or on TV! But if I had any advice for visitors to this enchanted city, it would be to visit the Duomo and avoid waiting in line by buying your ticket in advance online. This would save you from being delayed by other travelers fighting for space near the papal altar.
Even skeptics will fall in awe of the stunning architecture in these old churches since it truly makes them feel like a part of the community. The Uffizi Gallery and Accademia Gallery are my top picks for Florence attractions that are worth spending a lot of money on, but there are so many incredible things to see there. Moreover, the skip-the-line passes they sell at these two attractions will save you a ton of time!
Piazzale Michelangelo is a location that never fails to wow me. There is nothing more lovely than taking in the city's sunset while listening to live music emanating from within (and maybe grabbing some food).
Sick of Rome's commotion and noise? For some peace, leisure, and wine tasting, travel to Tuscany. Their wines are unmatched, and the rolling hills are breathtaking! During our trip, if you're feeling adventurous, try your hand at cooking with one or more various varieties (reds) so that we have something delectable after it's all said and done. I suggest preparing pasta sauces because they go together naturally anyhow.
One of my favorite Italian locations is Capri. It takes a full day to get there from Rome, but it is absolutely worth it. Get to Marina Grande, where there are high cliffs that offer views of the town and the blue water below. Monte Solaro offers even more breathtaking scenery at the top. You can reach it by taking an early morning train to Naples and then continuing by ferry or private boat (you can even climb the mountain if you are fit enough!).
Before visiting the Gardens, taste the delicious granite stones plucked directly from the earth and the freshly squeezed orange juice from the surrounding farms.
If you want an unforgettable experience, take a boat tour of Capri. Before moving on to other well-known places on this island, such as the huge white caves and the small ones nicknamed "green," you will discover incredible views and beautiful sights such as the Faraglioni (the sign). If time permits, visit the "blue" one, where the sunlight inside creates extraordinary hues! Once back at the marina, take a few souvenirs and turn off the Strada delle Risaie to reach the center of Anacapri.
What comes to mind when Italy is mentioned? Many people first remember a vacation they took to a warm climate on the Amalfi Coast. Positano is known for its gorgeous settlements dotting this mountainous coastline and its stunning blue waters, but it's not just these natural elements that have made Positano famous—it also has some very unusual customs! Visitors can, during their trip, board any private boat and sail in the waters that are dangerous, but allow them to admire the breathtaking views from the boats themselves! Prior to renting anything (a chair, for example), ensure sure you have reached your location. Positano is unbelievably beautiful, and there are several ways to take it all in.You could rent a boat from one the various companies in town or take an exclusive tour that will have your guide taking care everything including transportation to various caves along The Amalfi Coast for swimming opportunities - all while providing stunning views from on top!
If watching sunsets over skyline isn’t enough then I recommend heading back down before heading towards Rome where another amazing show awaits just waiting patiently at every turn-in street corner.
Tivoli is a stunning, tranquil location outside of Rome that provides something unique that you won't find anyplace else. Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este are two of its UNESCO World Heritage Sites; the former boasts magnificent fountains, while the latter has amazing waterworks that have appeared in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Then proceed to the ruins, which many experts still believe to be those formerly owned by affluent Romans centuries ago, for some fantastic photo opportunities! If your travel plans don't need you to spend more than an hour outside of the city limits, this place is perfect for a day trip from the ACI airport because it is easily reachable by public transit.
Between Rome and Florence, there is a charming tiny town called Orvieto. It offers the same Tuscany vibe without being too far from your goal! The porchetta dish, which is a type of pig roast, is absolutely delicious, and seeing such traditional cuisine made simply makes me miss home even more than usual. You can enjoy amazing views of rolling green hills, take great photos thanks to its elevated position providing stunning photo opportunities for visitors. But most importantly, you will find how good the Orvietano's porchetta dish is.
