The Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica are two distinct buildings even though they are both situated in Vatican City. Entry to St. Peter's Basilica is free and does not require a ticket. As you might imagine, there is always a long line due to the free admittance.

By using a unique entrance from the Sistine Chapel, you can enter the Basilica without waiting in line. Theoretically speaking, only tourists traveling in tour groups or with a private guide are allowed to use this corridor. Another good reason to take a guided tour of the Vatican Museums!
