Best places to see sunset in Florence

Jul 23, 2022

Sunsets in Florence are so beautiful that they have been immortalized on postcards and movies. There are several spots from where you can admire sunsets that will make your heart flutter. What you will see are the infinite shades of colors that light up the whole sky, reflecting on ancient buildings with extraordinary architecture right in front of you!

Piazzale Michelangelo sunset

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of my favorite places to visit in Florence. The view from up there is incredible, with the sweeping panorama of the city. You can sit down if you want and relax while waiting for it to get dark so that you’ll be able to admire Florence by night.

There is always a sense of magic when you're at the top and can see everything from above.

Palazzo Vecchio sunset

Up here in Florence, there's an even more incredible view because it includes not only the beautiful architecture of the city: the skyline with its impressive churches-the Duomo being one such example--and palaces such has Palazzo Vecchio (Vie de France) makes them look like two jewels found alongside each other! If I had my way though...I would be down below taking photos while drinking wine and enjoying the magnificent view!

Ponte Vecchio sunset

The 'Ponte Vecchio' is one of the most popular sunset spots in Florence. As you watch colors shift from light blue to orange and purple, plenty of buildings around you will be reflecting those shades of colors, making the whole atmosphere an even more magical experience!

But what if I want to have a romantic vibe? Fiesole is the perfect spot for this kind of sunset! The trek to this serene hilltop town will be worth it if you're looking for a way to avoid tourists and enjoy an outdoor scenery without any other visitors. Get here by car or taxi from Florence's downtown area in around twenty minutes, take public bus number 8 as well - both have easy access stops at the park gate where entering passengers have to hand over their tickets before walking towards "Frisoneer."

Monte Morello

Monte Morello is an hour North of Florence and it is recognized as the highest mountain of this area. You can see everything, from Sesto Fiorentino to Santa Maria Novella, including landmarks like Duomo di Firenze (the cathedral). Admiring the last rays of sun enlightening the vast landscape really makes your heart beat even faster!

Sunset Florence view

The views of Florence are incredible, but if you want to be able to watch them from a higher point, you can go to the rooftops. From Brunelleschi Terrace in front Angelica Gate at Baglioni Hotel or even from Uffizi Gallery’s cafe, just a few steps away from Palazzo Vecchio- all these spots offer stunning sunsets that will leave you mesmerized!

The sunset in Florence is a wonderful experience to live, with its breathtaking colors and incredible view. Whether you're sitting on Piazzale Michelangelo or enjoying an Aperitivo by the riverbank - you will in any case be left in awe!
