If you love visiting the beach, then you are going to love Monterosso al Mare! Monterosso al Mare is a beach in Italy (of course), paid-for lido businesses outnumber free areas, which is why it’s incredibly popular with local day-trippers as well as tourists. If you plan ahead to visit Monterosso al Mare, you will have an opportunity to stake out or rent a prime spot from which you can drink, eat, swim, and relax the day away at this excellent sandy stretch. You can even book a kayak tour of Cinque Terre from Monterosso and explore Cinque Terre from a unique and exclusive point of view. For those of you who love to take long hikes or just love to go on hikes in general, then you will love walking along the Blue Trail. A narrow dusty coastal path through terraced vineyards on the steep hills overlooking the Ligurian Sea, the Blue Trail hike (Sentiero Azzuro) showcases the unique, challenging, and beautiful topography of the Cinque Terre. You can either choose to start your hike from Monterosso to Corniglia or vice versa and get some beautiful photo ops during your hike. We highly suggest that you prepare and appreciate the steep, uneven conditions and your own fitness level, as well understand the various rules for hiking the Blue Trail before you decide whether or not this is something you would like to do.
You don’t want to miss the opportunity to witness the sunset from the rocks of Riomaggiore. In order to get to the rocks you will need to simply walk down the stairs to the Riomaggiore harbor, and then walk up the very narrow set of stairs on the left hand side. This will bring you to the viewpoint, which is opposite the boat ticket kiosk and a popular bar with views too, La Conchiglia. Keep in mind that the rocks of Riomaggiore are a popular spot, so there will be people there solely to get ‘that’ shot, however there’s plenty of space from which to authentically appreciate the setting sun casting everything in golden light. Watching the sunset from the rocks of Riomaggiore is a great way to end a fun-filled day!
If you’re looking to eat fresh seafood, then you’ll love the seafood in CInque Terre! Fishing has long been a key industry across the Cinque Terre villages. Although the tourism industry has displaced it as the largest employer, it has thankfully not died off or become an unviable trade for locals. Every menu from many of the cuisines in Cinque Terre will include various seafood options so, although you can get pizza and pasta and other generic Italian fare, you should certainly try to base a few of your meal choices around the local catch. You will love the variety of seafood dishes you can try when you’re in Cinque Terre!
If you want to explore Cinque Terre on your own, then we suggest you book our private Cinque Terre tour! You will experience an unforgettable day discovering the most impressive Ligurian landscapes. During your tour you will visit the five villages in Cinque Terre where you’ll start with the village of Manarola, a tiny urban jewel full of typical Genoese’s style ‘case-torri’, the village of Vernazza overlooked by the remains of a castle and a Medieval cylindrical tower from the XI century, the village of Riomaggiore, a XIII century village famous for its wine where we will walk through its characteristic paths, the village of Corniglia, and finally the only village of the Cinque Terre not in contact with the sea, rising on top of a rock promontory, the village of Monterosso, known as “the pearl of Cinque Terre'', an ancient fishing village that will catch your attention with the beauty of its beaches and the rich vegetation on the rocks.
