Full Description

You will discover two medieval gems in Tuscany, Siena and San Gimignano. Moreover you will experience a unique Chianti Wine Tasting in the typical Tuscan countryside.

  • From Lucca to The Tuscan Countryside to visit Siena-San Gimignano-Chianti Region
  • Our driver will pick up you and your group directly from Lucca (we will arrange a meeting point according to your exact location). We will start our Small Group Siena-San Gimignano-Chianti Tour from Lucca and drive in a small group through the very scenic Tuscan countryside. This landscape has often been the setting of many movies shot in the region.
  • San Gimignano: Discover the Town of the Fine Towers in a small group. San Gimignano is famous as the Town of the Fine Towers, 13 medieval skyscrapers once a symbol of wealth. Indeed, the construction of these towers originates from the rivalry between the Guelph and the Ghibelline. These rich families started building high towers in the 12th century to show their economic power. By the end of the medieval period, there were a total of 72 towers. This trend finished in 1255 when the law decided that no tower could be higher than the Torre Rognosa (51 meters high). Over the years, many towers were destroyed, most of them during the Second World War. Besides, San Gimignano will surprise you with the good wine and food produced locally, since the town is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
  • After visiting San Gimignano, we will visit one of the most popular cities in Tuscany. Siena is very rich in medieval history, art, and it is also famous for the Palio di Siena. The Palio is a traditional horse race taking place in Piazza del Campo and based on the ancient rivalry between the 17 town’s districts (contrade). Since the horses run for three laps of the square only, the race only takes a little time. But locals get ready for this event the whole year-round. In the old town, you can walk in the narrow streets of brick buildings, background for many scenes of Quantum of Solace (2008) from the James Bond series.
  • Main attractions you will see during Your Day Tour in Siena
  • The main attraction in Siena is surely Piazza del Campo: the famous shell-shaped square where the traditional horse race Palio takes place. In fact, the square represents the heart of the town. Here you can find the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall) with the massive brick tower Torre del Mangia. In addition, you can see here the great Fonte Gaia, a marvelous marble fountain. Another important attraction is the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the most beautiful Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals in Italy. Its multicolored marble façade and the inside (internal visit not included) will take your attention with masterpieces signed by Donatello and Michelangelo. The Cathedral is worth a visit for its stunning marble floor designed by Renassaince masters.
  •  Tour in a Local Winery: Enjoy Only Original Chianti Wine. If you say Italy, you say Wine. Probably, Chianti is the most famous Tuscan wine all over the world, but it is not the only wine in Tuscany. Therefore, we planned a unique wine tasting for you in a local cellar in San Gimignano to taste local wine like the Original Tuscan Chianti and many other Italian good wines.
  • Discover the Taste of Original Extra Virgin Olive oil. To enjoy a perfect Italian apéritif, it is significant to combine your wine with a classic slice of bread with tasty local Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This is the reason we included an Extra Virgin Olive Oil tasting in our tour as well.
