Uffizi finally re-opened after Covid-19

We are happy to say that Florence has opened the heavy wooden doors of the Uffizi, after 77 days of lockdown. This magnificent museum welcomes its visitors after this pandemic so that they can enjoy this stunning beauty and be safe with the measures taken against the virus.

A Small Step

We can say that the opening of Uffizi is still far from back to normal, this museum is open only from Tuesdays to Fridays for now and as we said earlier, with a reduced number of visitors, who are urged to pre-book. The past year has been very difficult for museums across Europe, they were forced to shut during national lockdowns and then required strict measures, by social distancing rules to allow entry to far fewer people. Making this museum a “luxury” to be visited somehow, since not everyone would have the chance to book in time.

Of course, this museum came up with the idea of an online tour, Uffizi’s masterpieces can be viewed online for people to still peruse the works, but nothing’s compared to being personally and walking through its majestic halls.

The reopening of this museum is a small step to amuse the people in this hard time of pandemics, of course being safe and getting along with the covid restrictions. Hopefully, there will be further steps with the vaccine and the relief from this pandemic, to get back to normal life as we used to, and not struggle to pre-book for visiting this amazing place.

The “secret” corridor welcomes the visitors soon

The gallery’s Vasari Corridor, which extends to the upper level of the Ponte Vecchio and joins the museum to the Palazzo Pitti, will undertake several constructions and safety upgrades to get along with the Covid rules, and welcome tourists again. The Vasari Corridor was built in 1565 for the Duke Cosimo I de’ Medici, and it was built to celebrate the marriage of his son, with the design of Giorgi Vasari.

This corridor is “secret” because back in the 16th century, it was visited only by the aristocratic families where they could travel between their palaces and offices, to stay away from the masses of Florence. Therefore, it was closed in 2016, dubbed unsafe by the fire department, where only e few visitors from private companies were able to book here. This time we have opened this corridor, known to be home to an elite collection of artwork that dates back to the 16th-century mainly with self-portraits.

With the end of the renovation process, the passage will be safe to open to the general public – it is mentioned that the corridor will open its gates soon but it’s not clear exactly when yet! Everyone will be able to enjoy this extraordinary heritage, and about half a million visitors per year are expected to visit the corridor. Over the path of this construction project, new emergency exits will be made, air conditioning, LED lighting, and security cameras all over the place will ensure safety and an enjoyable environment for the visitors.
